The Region of Queens is moving into budget season, with a series of public meetings now underway to shape the 2025–2026 municipal budget. The first sessions are focused on presenting and discussing a preliminary draft, with time set aside on April 24 and April 28 from 6 to 9 p.m. in council chambers. A third meeting may take place on May 6 if more discussion is needed.
All meetings are open to the public and available to watch via livestream on the municipality’s Facebook and YouTube pages. The final vote on the budget is tentatively scheduled for May 13 during the next regular council meeting.
At the same time, council is also collecting feedback on a possible new source of tourism funding.
A survey is now open to gather input on a proposed room levy that would apply to overnight stays at accommodations in the region. The small fee, paid by visitors, would go toward tourism development—potentially including marketing, events, and public infrastructure.
Council is inviting feedback not only from accommodation providers but also from anyone with views on whether the levy would support or hinder tourism. The survey takes less than 10 minutes to complete and remains open until May 18. It’s available at this link.
Council says no decision has been made, and public input will help shape the discussion going forward.
