I don’t know why I never put two and two together and figured out that bologna and hot dogs are the same meat, just in a different sized casing.
Both are emulsified meat paste with bindings which has been cooked and spiced the same for the most part.
Sometimes there’s a bit more of a smoky flavour to hot dogs but many meat packing plants use the same formula for both bologna and hot dogs.
So, on this National Bologna Day, feel free to have a hot dog to celebrate!
