Nikki Doucet, a former St. Francis Xavier University point guard hailing from Liverpool, has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NewCo, an independent organization set to manage England’s Women’s Super League and the second-tier Women’s Championship starting from the 2024-25 season.
With an illustrious career that includes four seasons with the X-Women and another with the University of Toronto, Doucet brings over two decades of experience in both the sports and financial sectors to her new role. Her expertise spans business management, commercial operations, marketing, and product management. Notable positions in her career include serving as the General Manager of Nike Women UK & Ireland and working with Citigroup Global Markets.
As the newly appointed CEO, Doucet’s responsibilities will include overseeing all facets of the Barclays Women’s Super League and Barclays Women’s Championship. This includes the transition of both leagues to NewCo before the commencement of the 2024-25 domestic season.
Dawn Airey, Chair of the Barclays Women’s Super League and Barclays Women’s Championship Board, expressed enthusiasm about the NewCo proposal and Doucet’s appointment. Airey stated, “Nikki is an exceptional talent, a world-class leader who combines extraordinary marketing skills with a background in finance and a deep love of sport – particularly women’s football.”
Baroness Sue Campbell, FA Director of Women’s Football, emphasized the historical significance of this moment for the women’s professional game. Campbell said, “Nikki is a very exciting appointment as CEO – her passion, determination, experience, and acumen, coupled with the unified approach of our clubs, is the perfect combination as we look to the future with the NewCo.”
