It’s a little confusing. I kept hearing and reading about people getting all excited about the Stanley cup. Seemed a little early in the season, but okay. Then I learned they were going crazy over an extra large travel mug.
I will be the first to admit I’m starting to get a but over the hill. I haven’t been keeping up on all the latest trends, so I had no idea what this was all about, until someone explained it to me.
Stanley has been making containers to keep things hot and cold for over one hundred years. They were mostly known for rugged jugs that people could use at work sites that could take a beating and not break. The they came out with a mug. A big mug. Like forty fluid ounces big. Apparently, it got trendy, in particular when there was a release of special colours. The mugs became as much of an accessory as anything, and people seemed to need different colours to go with different outfits.
But some of these were limited editions in certain stores, which had people climbing all over each other to get them. It was getting pretty crazy for a while.
I do use a travel mug now and then. I don’t think I need one quite that size, unless they put a lot more rest stops along the highway. And there are limits as to how long I care if things stay hot and cold.
I had someone mention to me this summer that they had an insulated mug that kept their beer cold for four hours. This just confused me. Who has one beer sitting around for four hours? So I fail to see the purpose of this container.
So I’m not sure what the big deal was with these Stanley cups. Although if you have one, I’m sure there are benefits.
And maybe someone can buy a couple cases of them for the Leafs. Be nice to see them hold the Stanley Cup one more time.
