As Nova Scotians grapple with the relentless surge in the cost of living, the provincial NDP is gearing up to address pressing concerns in the upcoming legislative session.
Leader Claudia Chender is embarking on a province-wide tour to highlight the party’s three main priorities aimed at easing financial burdens for families across Nova Scotia.
“The affordability crisis in our province demands urgent action,” emphasized Chender. “Too many Nova Scotians are struggling to keep up with skyrocketing costs, from groceries to rent and power bills. It’s time for tangible solutions that make a real difference in people’s lives.”
Recent data underscores the severity of the situation, with reports revealing that 43 percent of households in Nova Scotia are grappling with the high cost of power, contributing to the region’s highest child poverty rate in Atlantic Canada. Against this backdrop, the NSNDP is championing initiatives to alleviate financial strain and foster economic security.
Key among the party’s priorities is reining in Nova Scotia Power to curb the relentless surge in heating bills, a move aimed at providing much-needed relief to households grappling with energy costs.
Additionally, the NDP is advocating for the elimination of unnecessary vehicle inspections and license fees, measures designed to ease financial burdens on Nova Scotians.
Chender says during her tour which starts Thursday in Halifax she’ll be asking people’s thoughts on her party’s plans for the upcoming legislations session but more importantly she wants to hear their stories and how the cost of living crisis is impacting them.
Furthermore, the party is committed to addressing food insecurity by providing free meals to children in schools, ensuring that no child goes hungry while pursuing an education.
