Plans to construct outdoor pickleball courts by the Municipality of the District of Lunenburg are being put on hold as the bids received for the project exceeded the allocated budget.
Despite a budget of $800,000 from the municipality, both bids surpassed the million-dollar mark.
In response, Council has deemed the cost excessive, prompting MODL Mayor Carolyn Bolivar to announce a pause in the project.
She expressed intentions to collaborate with local pickleball advocates, regrouping to explore alternative funding avenues such as fundraising campaigns and grant applications.
We will be meeting with representatives of the Pickleball Community to
explore options and funding partners that would enable us to move forward with an outdoor pickleball
facility in the Municipality and I will be recommending that an $800,000 operating reserve be set up so
that funds are available for the project when needed.-MODL Mayor Carolyn Bolivar Getson
Additionally, Mayor Bolivar recommends reallocating the earmarked $800,000 for future pickleball court projects. This strategic move ensures that the funds remain available for future endeavors in enhancing recreational infrastructure.
