After being sold for over 117 years Ben’s Bread will be leaving Nova Scotian grocery shelves for good.
Founded in Halifax by Ben Moir, Ben’s products could be found in most homes and grocery stores during its peak.
The company was sold in 2004 to Canada Bread Company, Ltd, which Mexican food conglomerate Grupo Bimbo subsequently bought out in 2014.
Under Grupo’s management, Nova Scotian production was moved to New Brunswick, resulting in the closure of all remaining Ben’s bakeries.
Ben’s products continued to be sold in Nova Scotia following the move, however, a recent change is halting that with Ben’s products now to be sold under the Dempsters label.
