The Executive Director of the LaHave Islands Marine Museum has been named as the top museum volunteer in Canada.
79-year-old Doug Berrigen was given the award by the Canadian Federation of Friends of Museums which selected him out of hundreds of nominees from around the country.
Their announcement credited Berrigen’s 25 years with the museum as transformational. Noting that under his leadership their archives have grown to include almost 4,000 items that help tell the story of the LaHave Islands.
The museum which operates out of an old church celebrates family life and the history of the local inshore fishery.
It sees over 2,500 visitors annually and is open between June 1 and September 1.
