The province is investing nearly half a million dollars in eight recreation projects around Shelburne.
The funding was announced by Shelburne MLA Nolan Young, who emphasized that many of the recipients not only provide recreation offerings but also critical services in times of emergencies.
“Our government understands the critical role community organizations play in keeping each other safe, healthy and together,” said Young. “This can be through its emergency services, public spaces and amenities provided to residents. We want to help communities continue this important work.”
To that end, much of the funding is aimed at improving community facilities with things like roof repairs, heat pumps and generators.
The largest project is the Lower Ohio Recreation Centre which received over $165,000 to upgrade ball field and install heat pumps in the facility.
The Town of Shelburne was awarded $100,000 to help foot the costs of restoration work to the Shelburne Wharf which has a total estimated cost of $800,000.
