If you are into yard sales, this could be a pretty good weekend. There are a few around, including the return of the S.H.A.I.D. Animal Shelter yard sale, one of my favourite events.
I will admit, I am not much of a shopper and certainly not much of a yard sale person. I’m just not into sorting through items trying to find something that catches my eye. It’s just not my thing. Because of that, my experience with yard sales is mostly carrying things for my wife.
Many years ago, I was asked to help at the S.H.A.I.D. yard sale. I had heard about it. How it was one of the biggest around and an experience unto itself. So I went to check it out. And really enjoyed myself.
I returned the next year. And the next. Before I knew it, I was in charge of furniture and had an entire area. A big job, but also a lot of fun. It became a high point of my year. I really enjoyed helping the shelter, especially since i had adopted a dog from S.H.A.I.D. in the meantime.
But then came Covid, and everything stopped. One of the things I missed most was the S.H.A.I.D. yard sale. Now, it’s coming back.
I think the original plan was to maybe return with a scaled down version. It had become a major production and keeping it simpler might have seemed like a good idea. It was moved to the Tri District Fire Rescue Station in Newcombville, a slightly smaller venue. Although somehow, I think they have managed to stuff almost as much in there as they ever had before.
As part of the smaller sale, there was no furniture area. I told them they could get rid of my area, but they were stuck with me. I still intended to help out where I could.
And of course, there was still some furniture that showed up. So they even created a little space for me, back in the corner, with a few items of furniture. Not as much as usual, but there is some.
There are also a lot of other items. Lots.
Hopefully, we’ll see you tomorrow and Sunday. Put us on your yard sale schedule and drop by to help out the S.H.A.I.D. Animal Shelter. I know there are a few treasures to be found.
