The Lunenburg Academy Foundation (LAF) is calling on school alumni for art submissions as they look to feature their work in a gallery.
Anyone who attended the Academy before 2012 is invited to submit visual artwork of any type for consideration. All of the submissions will be catalogued for archives, and some will then be selected to be displayed when the gallery opens.
The deadline for submissions is July 20.
The gallery will be set up in the Lunenburg School of the Arts with a space in the Academy. A grand opening is scheduled for August 6 and the gallery will remain open until August 28.
LAF Executive Director Deborah Rent says since they opened their heritage classroom they’ve been seeking ways to make it more connected to those who attended the Academy.
She says the call to artists is one way they’re doing that. “By putting out this call for art we also hope to update our alumni records,” Rent said. “We’ll also then have some artwork on-site from people who attended the school that we can use to enhance the heritage classroom experience.”
Rent says the heritage classroom is also in the process of becoming an accredited museum and thinks hosting events like this will help achieve that.
