According to officials with the town, the Centennial Trail Bridge in Bridgewater will not reopen until at least the fall.
It was lit on fire in late June by a youth, however, thanks to a quick response from local firefighters most of it was able to be saved.
It did still sustain serious structural damage and engineers recently completed an inspection to determine what work would be needed for it to safely reopen.
They determined that parts of the bridge would require a new deck and railings as well as new support timbers.
The support timbers will need to be built specifically for the bridge and as such they are expected to take some time before they are ready.
In a post on the Town of Bridgewater’s Facebook page, they indicated that fall was the earliest the bridge could possibly reopen but that it could also be later.
As the repair projects firm up the town will provide more specific timelines for reopening plans.
