RCMP is investigating a fatal collision that occurred in Martins River.
On Saturday, August 3, at 10:10 a.m., police, fire services, and EHS responded to a report of a collision on Hwy. 103, east of Exit 10.
Police discovered that a Mazda CX-5 heading west collided with one, possibly two, semi-tractor trailers – one going eastbound and one going westbound. The driver of the Mazda, a 28-year-old woman from Conquerall Mills, was pronounced dead at the scene.
EHS transported the 85-year-old driver of the eastbound semi-truck, who was the only occupant, to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the westbound semi-truck, who was also the sole occupant, did not sustain any physical injuries.
An RCMP collision reconstructionist attended the scene. The investigation, which is in its early stages, is ongoing.
Hwy. 103, between Exits 10 and 9, was closed for several hours but has since reopened.
