The Region of Queens will coordinate the cleanup of a house on Main Street that caught fire earlier this year.
On May 13, The historic Hendry House, which was abandoned at the time caught fire, no one was injured.
RCMP at the time deemed the fire suspicious and the investigation remains open.
Following the fire, the remaining structure was torn down by firefighters, and a fence was erected by the Region of Queens around the debris.
At that time the owners were given until June 13 to either begin cleaning up the property or launch an appeal on the region’s decision ordering the cleanup.
The Region has yet to hear back, so they are now taking action to coordinate the clean-up, which the owners will be billed for.
A contractor has already been found to erect a protective structure around the site as asbestos was found and it’s needed to control to contamination.
Tenders have also been sent out for the demolition work which will be accepted until August 16.
By that time the region expects the protective structure to be in place so the demolition can begin as soon as possible.
