Premier Tim Houston has announced who will be taking over following Allan MacMaster’s decision to leave provincial politics for a federal seat in Cape Breton.
Timothy Halman, the current Environment Minister and MLA for Dartmouth East, has been appointed as the new Deputy Premier.
In addition to his new role, Halman will also take on the responsibilities of Minister of Finance and Treasury Board, as well as Minister of Communities, Culture, Tourism, and Heritage, and Minister of Gaelic Affairs.
He will continue to oversee the Environment and Climate Change portfolio.
Houston praised Halman’s commitment to advocating for Nova Scotians, particularly in opposition to the federal carbon tax.
“Timothy is a valued member of our cabinet and has shown that he will fight for what’s right for Nova Scotians, including against the federal carbon tax,” said Houston. “I know he will bring the same hard work and dedication to his new portfolios.”
Halman’s appointment is effective immediately, with a swearing-in ceremony having taken place on October 24.
