A large investment from the federal government to EverWind Fuels, in another step toward a green economy.
Ottawa will spend $22.5 million on equipment through the Green Shipping Corridor Program:
- buy a loading arm to fuel and fill ships with green ammonia
- build a pipeline to transport green ammonia from the production facility to the transport terminal
- buy three tugboats and improve the dock to help move and load ships safely
Mike Kelloway made the announcement at the Port Hawkesbury Civic Centre Friday morning.
“This is good news for Nova Scotians and good news for Canadians.”
Founder and CEO of EverWind fuels says this announcement reflects Canada’s commitment to Nova Scotia being a green energy shipping hub.
“We are proud to stand alongside our First Nations and celebrate the progress we are making together – along with local, provincial and federal governments in driving Atlantic Canada’s green hydrogen and ammonia production forward, while creating good paying jobs and community benefits right here in the Strait Area.”
The feds announced $125 million to EverWind in Point Tupper last fall, to export green hydrogen to Germany and other global markets.
The deal with Germany is for 500,000 tonnes of green ammonia each year beginning in 2026.
The company is one of the larger employers in the Strait area with more than 100 employees but closer to 300 people when you look at their various initiatives.
