The 15th annual Gift from the Heart Radiothon has raised just over $167,700 for South Shore Regional Hospital, surpassing its $157,000 goal by $10,000.
This year’s event also pushed the Radiothon’s total fundraising past the $2 million mark since it began.
The money will go toward purchasing MOLLI, a device used in breast cancer surgeries. The technology provides a less invasive and more comfortable alternative to traditional wire localization procedures.
Arleen Stevens, Executive Director of the South Shore Health Services Foundation, says the strong response reflects how many in the community have been affected by breast cancer.
“People really identified with this cause—not just breast cancer but cancer in general,” Stevens said.
The Radiothon, broadcast on CKBW and Country 100.7, saw support from donors across the region.
While the event has been hosted at the Best Western in recent years, some activities returned to the hospital this year, allowing for greater staff participation. Stevens noted that several hospital units held their own fundraisers leading up to the event.
Donations are still being accepted, with Stevens emphasizing that support for the hospital is always welcome.
