The Municipality of Lunenburg could have a female mayor if Carolyn Bolivar-Getson has her way.
The long time councillor has officially announced her intention to run in the municipal elections this fall.
She says she’d like to see more diversity on municipal councils including women and young people.
“When I was first elected in 1997 I was the youngest person on council at that particular time,” she says. “When I was elected in 2012, I am still the youngest person on council.”
She says cleaning up the Lahave River will be a priority for her along with economic development.
“When you have a municipality that is prospering economically and people are employed, [then] people are definitely moving and wanting to be in your municipality.”
Bolivar-Getson is the first person to toss their hat in the ring to replace Mayor Don Downe who announced his retirement earlier this year.
Municipal elections are scheduled for Oct 15th.
