The Lunenburg Dog Park on Starr Street officially opened on Saturday.
Two years in the making and a valiant effort on the part of many community-minded dog owners, businesses, donors and sponsors has resulted in a large fenced-in, off-leash park.
Lunenburg’s mayor Rachel Bailey was there to mark the official opening.
“When everyone sees the value in something and work together, they can accomplish great things and this simply demonstrates that very well.”
The dog park features two sections, one for small dogs and another for large canines, parking, a fountain and bag dispensers.
The Lunenburg Dog Park Society secured land from the town and helped raise money to make it happen.
President Karen Lewis is overwhelmed by the community support.
“It always amazes me how dogs bring people together. We had lots of people support and offer in-kind services for large donations of money that don’t have dogs.”
The park has two daily play date times for dogs at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.
