Parents in Lunenburg are wondering where they’ll be sending their pre-primary kids this fall.
This spring, the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development announced Bluenose Academy would be one of 56 schools launching pre-primary programs in September.
But without space to move the program into the school, many are left to wonder where it will be established.
Heather Lantz, Director of Lunenburg Day Care says parents are left in limbo.
“We’ve had parents that are very unsure, not knowing what’s going to happen in the fall. Should we stay at the daycare? Should we pull them [their kids] out and pursue the pre-primary?”, says Lantz. “What we’ve heard so far is concern about after school care and just being unsure of the location.”
Lantz says they’ve reached out to officials with the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development and the South Shore Regional Centre for Education but have yet to hear when or where the program is going.
SSRCE Executive Director Paul Ash says pre-primary will be coming to Lunenburg this fall.
In an e-mail Ash says,
“The program will be offered in September. We have a few logistical pieces to finalize and want to have everything completed before we share the specifics with parents. We are expecting this will happen within the next week. Parents can be assured it will be available as it was announced as a commitment by the Minister. We are not expecting to encounter any issues but need a little longer to finalize the details.”
Ash did not specify when that announcement would be made.
