As the cold weather rears its head our way the province has once again started their heating assistance program.
Applications for the Heating Assistance Rebate Program are now available for Nova Scotians in need of a bit of help.
The rebate offers up to $200 to residents who pay for heating with an annual income of less than $29,000 or households with an annual income under $44,000.
Patricia Arab, minister of Service Nova Scotia and internal services, said the rebate can help families deal with the heavy heating costs that come with cold weather.
“I think that it’s our responsibility to offset the burden and cost of living as much as we can for those who are the most vulnerable and needing in our society,” she said.
Last year, over 41,500 residents received the rebate, accounting for over $8.1 million.
Arab said low income seniors may automatically be eligible for the heating assistance rebate.
“It automatically gets added when they apply to the Property Tax Rebate Program,” she said.
“We are just trying to make it as easy as possible for people know that this exists, so that people who are eligible can take advantage of it.”
Applications can be picked up province wide at Service Nova Scotia, and locally for South Shore residents at:
