This year one hundred trees will be decorated by businesses, organizations and community members around Lunenburg.
The annual Christmas Pilgrimage and Lighting of the Trees encourages people to donate to local charities by sponsoring and decorating trees.
Most of the trees, around seventy will be displayed at the Lunenburg Band Stand, according to Stephen Ernst one of the lead organizers. The remaining trees will be scattered throughout the waterfront.
Ernst says the waterfront trees typically have a theme.
” With lots of marine-based businesses in the area, most of the waterfront trees have a nautical or ocean theme to them, while the ones at the bandstand tend to have more to do with what’s going on in the community.”
The project focuses on helping local charities. In the past, they have donated to the Fisherman’s Memorial Hospital and the Lunenburg Heritage Society.
This year proceeds will go to the Neptune 39th Sea Cadet Corps.
Anyone looking to get involved or donate can drop off payments at Power House Art (129 Lincoln St) or Stan’s Dad and Lad (250 Lincoln St).
