While many Canadians may feel they don’t get enough sleep a study from Sleepopilis shows most of us do.
The study looked at what is considered “ideal sleep” (7-9 hours) and how many people achieve that.
Chief Research Officer, Rose McDowell said “Our research showed that, despite the similarities between the two countries, they diverge on some important health-related metrics,” said Rose MacDowell, chief research officer at Sleepopolis. ”
In Canada, women fair the best with 94 per cent getting an ideal amount of sleep, men come in at 93 per cent.
Those figures drop off significantly when looking to our southern neighbors, only 65 per cent of adult Americans get enough sleep according to Sleepopolis.
Looking at adolescent numbers the trend is essentially the same, 68 per cent of American adolescents get poor sleep, In Canada, it is only 8 per cent.
When it comes to improving your sleep McDowell said getting relaxed is essential.
“Relaxing before bed with a wind-down like a few minutes of stretching to help lower core body temperature and reduce stress – both of which will help get to sleep faster.”
