After insiders broke the news yesterday that the CFL would be hosting a regular-season game in Halifax we now have some official details.
In an announcement made today in Halifax, league commissioner Randy Ambroise said “Our league belongs to Canadians from coast-to-coast-to-coast – and for one fabulous weekend this July, the east coast will be its capital.”
The game will take place at Huskies Stadium on July 25, the stadium will add 6,000 temporary seats bringing the capacity up to 10,000.
Playing in the game will be two of the leagues’ most popular franchises with the Toronto Argonauts and Saskatchewan Roughriders making the trip to the east coast.
Tickets are expected to go on sale towards the end of February with a full list of prices expected in the next few days.
Bringing an event like this is certainly no coincidence with discussions of a team coming to Halifax being a hot button issue of late. “This is our way of saying the CFL belongs in Atlantic Canada and that Atlantic Canada belongs in the CFL.”
In addition to the game, the city will host a three day “mini Grey Cup Festival”. Details on this are still sparse but the league says players from both teams will be arriving early to help promote the event and interact with fans through a series of media events and community visits.
