Over 966 thousand people applied for the Canada Emergency Response Benefit the first day it was available.
That’s from Jean-Yves Duclos, the President of the Treasury Board.
Duclos says that those number represents what they usually receive for regular employment insurance over a six-month span.
In terms of E.I. he tells us that they’ve received over three point six million applications since March 15th for emergency benefits, and have since been able to process over three million of them.
Duclos adds that his hat is off to everyone at Service Canada and the Canada Revenue Agency, who have made all this possible.
Those born January through March are to apply for the CERB on Mondays, April through June on Thursdays, July to September on Wednesdays and those born in October, November or December on Thursdays.
