Nova Scotia RCMP released the numbers on COVID-19 tickets issued so far.
Since April 3, Nova Scotia RCMP has charged 38 people for offences under the Nova Scotia Health Protection and Emergency Management Acts. To date, the RCMP has charged a total of 54 people with offences related to the current provincial State of Emergency in Nova Scotia.
Premier Stephen MacNeil said two weeks ago that police would begin ticketing people failing to observe health and safety mandates. He said enough time had passed that ignorance was no longer an excuse.
These statistics do not include local police forces like the Bridgewater Police Service,
BPS said earlier this week that they had given people some extra time to learn about new regulations but they are now prepared to ticket anyone failing to observe the rules established by the Nova Scotia Health Authority.
