Bridgewater’s Luke Woodworth was selected 11th overall in this weekend QMJHL Draft by the Drummondville Voltigeurs but whether he will lace up his skates for them is still in question.
As Drummondville is in Quebec there are limited English education opportunities which is a concern for Woodworth, “We’ll see what happens, I’m very excited but we still need to figure out the french education issue.”
Drummondville will likely do all they can to make it happen as they traded up to take him.
We reached out to the team for comment but our messages were not returned.
As for what he needs to do to be ready should everything work out he says his summer will be spent trying to put on some mass.
“I know I’m one of the smaller guys but I rely on my skill a lot, still I need to put on about five or ten pounds to get ready for the next level,” Woodworth said.
It’s possible Woodworth could have been drafted higher but his season and chance to show his skills were cut short. He helped lead the UPS Store South Shore Mustangs to their first-ever regulars season championship. The playoffs were canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic which effectively ended Woodworth’s rookie season.
In his rookie campaign, he recorded 67 points in 34 games which earned him the teams Rookie of the Year award.
