It was a busy weekend for the South Shore Lumberjacks as they participated in the first online MHL draft.
The teams draft team set up at Rhyno’s who provided them with the floorspace to have a draft hub.
The Jacks had two first-round selections, taking Alex Carr of Sackville, N.S. fourth overall. Carr, the first defenseman chosen in the draft, had six goals and twelve assists in 35 games with the Cole Harbour Wolfpack of the NSMMHL. He also posted one goal and seven assists in twelve playoffs games.
Closing out the first round, the Jacks selected Brandon Abbass. The 16-year-old forward from Halifax had ten goals and nine assists in 35 games with the Halifax McDonald’s last season, posting three assists in seven playoff games.
With their last pick of the draft they selected former UPS Store South Shore Mustang Luke Woodworth, however Woodworth was also selected by the Drummondville Voltigeurs who play in the QMJHL which is the top league in the area.
After being drafted by the Voltigeurs he said his family and him were looking into how he can continue his education in the primarily french community of Drummondville.
