The show must go on despite the pandemic, so after the Lunenburg Folk Harbour Festival was cancelled organizers wondered how they could get the music to the people.
Once the province announced outdoor concerts were a go the Lunenburg Folk Harbour Society put together a summer concert series.
The series will be performed live at the Bandstand in Lunenburg starting July 25, every Saturday until September 12. During the weekend of August 7-9 when the Folk Harbour Festival would have taken place afternoon concerts will also take place.
The free concerts are an hour in length and listeners will be expected to practice physical distancing. Volunteers will be on site to provide gentle reminders and monitor the crowd size to ensure it doesn’t go over 250.
Program Chair for the Lunenburg Folk Art Society Louis Robitaille says it was important to give people this opportunity.
“It’s a chance to see live music again, I think that’s important in this time to be able to get out and see live music as opposed to just seeing it on video screens,” he said.
The concerts start at 2 p.m., dependent on weather conditions.
