Lunenburg’s mayoral race will have a familiar face as Deputy Mayor and three-term Councilor John McGee says he is throwing his hat into the ring.
He feels his long career in public service has given him the experience to help guide Lunenburg for the next four years.
Ahead of the election, he says he has a few main objectives he would like to work on if elected, “My main focus would be housing issues, as well as economic development and I also want to finish the job of cleaning up the harbour’s water.”
McGee has been involved in many campaigns throughout his life but this one will be unlike any before, “I ran federally twice and I did a lot of door-knocking in that time, I’m going to miss that as it was a great chance to meet the community and learn about their concerns.”
He says during the campaign he will be working hard to be available by phone and online as traditional campaigning is being hindered by the COVID-19 pandemic.
McGee explained that he had no intention of running for Mayor if incumbent Rachel Bailey was seeking reelection but she has already announced she will not be doing so.
He also hopes that someone else will join the mayoral race as he feels having choices not only leads to better campaigns but also a better leader.
