Being a reporter has given Josh Healey an “inside track” on the concerns of community members from the District of the Municipality of Lunenburg which he thinks will make him a valuable town councillor.
Healey is running in what will be his first shot at public office this October as he vyes for the Ward 10 Council seat for the MODL.
He first moved to Lunenburg County in 2016 to sail aboard Bluenose II. He then pursued journalism at the University of King’s College before returning to the South Shore to work as a reporter for the SaltWire Network. As a reporter, Healey covered hundreds of events throughout the county and learned about important local issues.
Healy said during that time he learned a lot “I attended many council meetings in my time as a reporter and that helped familiarize me with some of the community as well as some of their concerns.”
If elected Healey intends to listen to the concerns of his constituents and he has already identified some issues they have expressed to him. Healey says he would prioritize improving rural internet, cell service and other infrastructure; he also expressed the need to champion environmentally friendly solutions to help residents battle energy poverty and pollution.
“We’re at a critical time both locally and globally. This election is an opportunity to explore new ideas, be that through better programs or partnerships, to make sure we’re building a better Lunenburg County for the future. It’s time to look ahead so that we can build a stronger home together,” said Healey.
Healey is also a passionate advocate for the community and currently volunteers for the Bridgewater and Area Chamber of Commerce, the Lunenburg Marine Museum Society, the Lunenburg Rowing Club and the Lunenburg Yacht Club.
