The Town of Bridgewater announced today via Facebook that this year’s annual Christmas Parade has been cancelled.
The Christmas on the LaHave Committee made the move as they didn’t see how the parade could run while observing the provincial health guidelines which currently restrict outdoor gatherings to 250 people.
“We have to walk the line right now, where we need to keep public safety in mind while still allowing the people of our community to enjoy the sights and sounds of the Christmas season,” explained Christmas on the LaHave Committee chairman Michael Graves. “Having upwards of 10,000 people in our downtown, standing shoulder-to-shoulder, simply isn’t compatible with what we’re facing in a pandemic that has touched all parts of the world.”
He went on to say that in spite of the cancellation of the parade the town will still have a festive look, “We’ll still be decorating the town, having the 4-H Christmas Tree Village and the Town’s tree will be lit up.”
This year’s tree comes courtesy of Marcus and Thomas Zwicker will again be raised at the Pijinuiskaq Park lookoff. The date of the tree lighting has yet to be determined.
The town is also planning other holiday events like a scavenger hunt and a best-decorated house competition, details for which will be provided at a later date.
