The South Shore Lumberjacks get their season underway Friday night with a matchup against their local rivals the Yarmouth Mariners.
Just a few months ago it was unknown if the season would happen but the MHL has come up with a plan that will see teams travel less while still getting lots of games in.
As for how the Jacks dealt with it, according to Head Coach Brogan Bailey training camp was a welcome treat for the players who haven’t been able to get on the ice in a while.
With players now match fit the team can look ahead to the first game of the season, which will be hosted in Bridgewater at the LCLC.
Coach Bailey says there are a few players fans should be excited about this year.
“We have Bair Gendunov back and he’s an exciting offensive player who gets a lot of goals and Ozzy King is another guy who spent last season with the Halifax Mooseheads and we’re excited to see what he can bring to the team.”
He also says they’ve been fortunate to have a lot of local talent join the team.
“Last year the Mustangs won their league for the first time and we’ve had some of those guys join us, which I think is always appreciated by the fans who like a local flavour to the team.”
The management of the Jacks consider this to be a rebuilding year but with this being such an odd year the Jacks coach thinks anything can happen.
“We don’t want to be near the bottom of the league, we think mid-table is realistic and then with everyone making the playoffs this year it’s all up in the air.”
Tickets are still available for Friday’s game but if you wish to attend you must book them online or in advance of arriving as the box office will not be open.
