Environment Canada is forecasting snow for most of Nova Scotia on Friday night and throughout Saturday.
Currently, the province is under a special weather statement for snow accumulation, which happens when they expect snowfall to be in the range of 10-15 centimeters.
Environment Canada meteorologist Ian Hubbard says the storm will make landfall on the southern tip of Nova Scotia around 7:00 p.m. after which it will travel northeast across the province.
“After arriving in Shelburne at around 7:00 p.m. the storm will continue moving up along the coast and it will likely hit Lunenburg County by 11:00 p.m.”
Snow is expected to fall throughout the night with 5-10 centimeters forecasted over Friday.
Snowfall will continue into Saturday, potentially bringing another 5-10 centimeters, dissipating in the afternoon.
Looking further ahead Hubbard says Environment Canada is tracking another storm system that is set to arrive on either Monday or Tuesday.
“Another system is making its way to us now but with it tracking a little further South the warmer air should result in mostly rainfall which could clear up a lot of the snow from the weekend,” Hubbard says.
The second system is still too far off for Environment Canada to predict the amount of precipitation but that information should be available by Monday morning.
