Bridgewater Police are investigating an anti-mask rally that took place over the weekend.
According to BPS Deputy Cheif Danny MacPhee, they were made aware of the event last week when the organizers reached out and told them it was their intent to follow all health and safety protocols.
MacPhee says officers were dispatched to monitor the event which took place Saturday. While the officers were on the scene they didn’t witness any infractions.
He added that the group organizing the event had not applied for a traffic permit or rental agreement for Shipyards Laning for the event to take place, but he noted that was not unusual for rallies like this.
It wasn’t until after officers left the scene that the alleged health act infringements took place says MacPhee, “The images are grainy but we are working to determine who was there if there were too many people and determining what protocols were breached if any.”
He says it is entirely possible that people could be charged from this event, should the image analysis yield irrefutable evidence of violations.
With the recent surge in case numbers, MacPhee says people will need to take more care but the Bridgewater Police Force does not intend to alter their enforcement of health protocols unless there are major changes to the policies from the Nova Scotia Health Authority.
Overall, MacPhee says he and his peers feel the communities they serve have been very compliant with the COVID-19 protocols and they are hopeful it will remain that way.
