People in Bridgewater and the surrounding communities will have to be patient as Nova Scotia is facing its third wave of COVID-19 according to the town’s mayor.
Mayor David Mitchell supports all the new restrictions imposed this week by the province and is encouraging everyone to take them with the utmost seriousness.
With many shops and services now being shut down, he says it’s important people understand the new restrictions will take time to work.
“I don’t want people to get discouraged when over the next few days we continue to see high case numbers,” Mitchell said. ” The cases we’ll be seeing this week and next week are still cases from before the new restrictions were imposed so we won’t know how effective they are for some time.”
Mitchell says he’s been asked by residents on multiple occasions to clarify some of the new restrictions that people have found confusing.
The most common question he’s been hearing is the term “community” means. Mitchell says for residents of Bridgewater the term “community” means Lunenburg County, adding people should try and do all their shopping in the town they reside in.
Overall Mitchell is hopeful the new restrictions will be observed and impactful.
Adding to his optimism is the addition of more COVID-19 testing resources to the Bridgewater area. Mitchell says the local Emergency Management Office is working with the Nova Scotia Health Authority to establish a second testing facility in Bridgewater in the near future.
He says the details are still being finalized but he will be posting any new information on his Facebook page.
Throughout the pandemic, Mitchell has been staying active on social media, usually summarizing the daily press briefings from the province and putting each update in local context.
The posts seem to be well received in the community with most of the feedback being positive.
He says staying in contact with people is crucial as we navigate this third wave and he encourages people to reach out to their friends and family throughout the two-week lockdown.
