The Second Story Women’s Centre is offering a unique gift idea for Mother’s Day this year.
This year people will be able to gift counseling sessions that the shelter offers to women and gender-oppressed individuals.
On their website, you can gift the session to your mother who will then be sent info on what their gift will go towards.
Each gift will cover the cost of one individual session which will then be used on one of the shelter’s patrons.
Executive Director of Second Story, Rhonda Lemire says with the COVID-19 pandemic it has been hard for them to fundraise and as a result, they need as much help as possible to keep their services up and running.
“We’ve been coming up with unique, quick ways to help raise funds throughout the year, and with Mother’s Day we wanted to provide a way for women to help women,” LeMire said.
In addition to hindering fundraising, the COVID-19 pandemic has also impacted the mental health of many, which is another reason the Second Story Women’s Centre wanted to offer a way to help women this Mother’s Day.
“It’s been a tough year and we’ve had to find ways to adapt and help people through it,” said Lemire. “Earlier in the pandemic, we started offering these counseling sessions digitally along with some of our other services and I think it’s been really helping.”
The individual sessions cost $50 but the centre is accepting donations of any amount. They are hoping to raise enough money to cover 20 sessions by Mother’s Day which works out to $2,000.
