The Federal government is helping celebrate one of our countries national symbols as this week they announced a major contribution to the Bluenose 100 celebrations.
Fisheries and Coast Guard Minister Bernadette Jordan made the announcement via Zoom where she announced the money will be given to Lunenburg Marine Museum Society With those funds they plan to put on multiple virtual events that will allow people to learn more about the Bluenose and its history.
During the Zoom presentation, Jordan expressed her happiness that the Federal government is helping with the celebrations.
“I am so proud to see our government supporting the Lunenburg Marine Museum Society and the important work they do to keep our maritime history and culture alive today,” Jordan said. “I can’t wait to join our community members in the coming months as we honour this iconic ship’s 100th anniversary and help position Nova Scotia as a destination of choice, ready to welcome visitors again when the time is right.”
The Bluenose 100 committee is spearheading this years celebration and they feel it is an appropriate symbol for the current pandemic situation. Chairman of the committee Alan Creaser said, “One hundred years ago, on the heels of the last global pandemic, Bluenose became a symbol of hard work, resilience and success, inspiring immense pride within our young nation. Bluenose 100 aims to share the inspiring story of Bluenose with a new generation, delving into the culture and heritage the famed schooner represents.”
How the money will be used still needs to be determined but it will all be going towards either enhancing existing plans for the centennial or developing new events for people to enjoy.
