Environment Canada has issued a Tropical Cyclone warning in nine regions across Nova Scotia.
Tropical System Two is the current name of the storm tracking towards Nova Scotia. It formed off the coast of North Carolina Monday morning. The Canadian Hurricane Centre says they will continue to monitor the system but right now they do not anticipate it will be making landfall anywhere in Canada.
The current projection shows the storm moving Northeast throughout Monday evening with the current track running about 250 kilometres south of Nova Scotia.
Bob Robichaud with the Canadian Hurrican Centre says the storm will continue gathering speed tonight but on Tuesday and Wednesday, they expect it to start slowing down.
“It’s possible it could intensify into Tropical Storm Bill overnight but even in that event by the time its passing us we expect it will have already weakened,” Robichaud said.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, they are projecting the storm will lose speed as it gets absorbed by a larger non-tropical low-pressure system originating from the west. It is expected to become fully absorbed south of Newfoundland during the day Wednesday.
Although Robichaud says we are unlikely to see much damage as a result it is bringing some precipitation with it and most parts of mainland Nova Scotia are expected to see significant rainfall over the next two days.
