The Progressive Conservatives
Tory Leader Tim Houston released his plan to cut down the surgery waitlist at a stop in Halifax Thursday.
Houston said a PC government will open operating rooms on evenings and weekends.
“We need to let our surgeons operate,” he said. “We need to do more than just shorten the waitlist. Our goal will be to meet the benchmark standards for wait times, within 18 months of being elected.”
He said they will also build a website which tracks the number of surgeries each day, what type, and the impact on the waitlist in real time.
The Liberals
Iain Rankin’s Liberals have promised to continue spending on long-term care.
Rankin made the announcement in Chester Thursday morning.
“These are their homes. As such, they should be comfortable, efficient, accessible, and modern,” he said. “Our long-term care residents deserve the best that we can give them, and with these investments we hope that we are achieving that goal.”
He said their plan will reduce wait times through a new IT bed management vacancy system, increase training and equipment for long-term care staff, and replace and renovate aging long-term care infrastructure.
The New Democratic Party
The NDP are talking long-term care as well.
NDP Leader Gary Burrill was in Halifax Thursday, where he announced an NDP government would set a minimum standard of 4.1 hours of care and 1.3 hours of nursing care per day.
“It’s time to pay long-term care workers what they are worth and to create a work environment that allows them to provide the care and support to our seniors that they so desperately want to give,” he said. “Long-term care residents deserve better.”
Burrill is campaigning south of Halifax, to Lunenburg, Wednesday.
