The Bridgewater Police Service has laid charges in relation to a fire on Tuesday morning at an apartment on King Street.
Jizelle Nicole Sanford a 26-year-old Bridgewater woman now faces two arson charges, one for disregard to human life and the other for damage to property.
BPS Deputy Cheif Danny MacPhee explained the reason the fire was deemed suspicious, “We noticed that some of the safety measures in the unit had been tampered with leading us to believe something was suspicious,”.
MacPhee says they then analyzed video footage from the apartment building along with some town cameras. That evidence gave them a subject who then returned to the burned unit later on Tuesday at which point Sanford was arrested.
He also says the fire could have been much worse but the fire caused a water line to break in the ceiling which slowed down the spread of the blaze.
Sanford appeared in Bridgewater Provincial Court this morning where they set a court date for the arson charges. She is due to appear in court again in Bridgewater on September 15, at 9:30 a.m.
She was remanded back into custody following her appearance this morning.
Police have not released any information on what was used to start the fire but they did deem it suspicious from the outset.
