A Queens County beach is now more accessible to those with disabilities and mobility challenges.
The Region of Queens Municipality has installed an accessible picnic table and a MOBI mat at Beach Meadows Beach.
The MOBI mat allows those using a wheelchair, walker, or stroller easier access to enjoy the beach.
Sand barriers have also been installed in order to reduce the amount of sand on the boardwalk leading up to the MOBI mat.
The mat and sand barriers were partially funded by a $20,000 grant from the Department of Communities, Culture and Heritage.
These upgrades were recommended by the Municipality’s Accessibility Advisory Committee as part of the Queens Municipal Accessibility Plan.
