Nova Scotia’s Minister of Public Works Kim Masland issued a statement today indicating she has tested positive for COVID-19.
The Queens MLA said she received news of her positive test on Wednesday morning after which she decided to inform the public.
She said she first started feeling unwell last week and she initially went for a test on Thursday, November 11 that ultimately came back negative.
Masland said she continued feeling unwell over the weekend and went for another test on Monday which came back positive.
She is taking the news as an opportunity to show the importance of taking preventative measures against COVID-19, “This shows how contagious this virus is and how important it is to be vaccinated and follow public health measures.” Masland said.
In her statement, Masland confirmed she is double-vaccinated and has been submitting for COVID-19 testing regularly.
Although Masland said she is feeling unwell she credits the vaccine for keeping her symptoms mild and preventing her from becoming seriously ill.
Masland said she will continue to work with Public Health to help with contact tracing but she asks for privacy while she recovers.
