The province is looking to build more housing across Nova Scotia.
To address the housing crisis, they have identified 37 sites from the provincial land inventory that could be used to build housing.
Five sites are ready for proposals. Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing John Lohr says they will look for proposals on the remaining sites after doing their due diligence.
“It is our goal that all developments that result from this process will include affordable housing,” says Lohr. “Evaluation criteria for development proposals will give preference to proposals that include affordability.”
Two sites in Dartmouth are already in the planning process.
The province will also work to identify more land that could be used for housing.
“These sites represent a potential future home for thousands of Nova Scotians from one end of the province to the other,” says Lohr. “This list of proprieties, to start, are based on communities most in need of housing and how quickly the land could be ready.”
