If you were overwhelmed by all the coverage of the passing of the Queen the last week , you’re not alone. I purposely avoided most of the news about it until yesterday when the world was focussed on the Royal State Funeral.
No one does pomp and ceremony like the British – whether it be a coronation, a wedding or a funeral.
I loved seeing and hearing the bagpipes, whether it was the lone piper in the balcony or the massed bands on the funeral route.
I felt sympathy for Harry and Meghan. Because of some arcane rules Harry wasn’t allowed to wear his uniform or salute the Queen, his grandmother, at the funeral.
It was great to see the RCMP in their red serge riding horses in the procession.
Watching the pained expressions on the pallbearers when they lifted the Queen’s coffin confused me until I learned that the coffin is lead lined and could have weighed up to 699 pounds.
I’m not and have never been a monarchist but have always loved the Queen, no matter how she is portrayed behind the scenes in The Crown tv series. If you’ve never watched The Crown now is your chance to get a real understanding of the Royal family.
King Charles III will probably be a good monarch. I don’t like him but I respect his beliefs and principles – he was so far ahead of the rest of the world as far as environmental causes like climate change and organic farming.
Did you watch any of the funeral? If so, what was the highlight for you?
