The province is going after the tobacco industry. The Nova Scotia government wants to sue the industry for claims cigarettes were safe – especially in some ads which date back to the 1950’s. Health minister Leo Glavine says the industry’s fraud, conceit and conspiracy led to addiction and illness. Smoke Free Nova Scotia President Krista McMullin says it’s about accountability. Nova Scotia will join several law firms representing Saskatchewan, BC, Manitoba, New Brunswick and PEI in suing several tobacco companies.
