A former NHL hockey player from Bridgewater says the Memorial Arena will be missed.
Glen Murray says he was sad to learn the arena would be closing August 31.
The Bridgewater Memorial Arena opened its doors in 1949.
Murray says it’s one of the few old rinks left.
“Those old rinks are tough to come by. Nothing against the new LCLC but the old rink had that cold feeling in the winter and wasn’t warm, you had to wrap up to go there and all the new facilities now, you can wear a sweatshirt to go into the facility and I think that atmosphere is going to be missed.”
Murray says he hasn’t been approached by anyone attempting to drum up support to save the arena.
A high school hockey tournament in Murray’s name has been held at the Memorial Arena.
He hopes it can move to the Lunenburg County Lifestyle Centre for its 13th year this fall.
